Senior YSRC leader and former state minister Ambati Rambabu has raised serious concerns regarding the handling of a recent custodial death case in Andhra Pradesh. Speaking to the media in Guntur on Tuesday, Rambabu expressed deep skepticism about the ongoing investigation into the tragic passing of Gade Sai Krishna, specifically highlighting the suspicious loss of surveillance footage from the Krishnalanka police station.
Demands for Transparent Custodial Death Investigation
During his address, Rambabu questioned why Circle Inspector Nagaraju has not yet been taken into custody, despite a formal case being registered against him. He emphasized that the delay in administrative action threatens the integrity of the evidence, suggesting that any further postponement could facilitate the destruction of critical information. The custodial death case has become a focal point of public concern, with critics arguing that the current investigation is designed to protect those involved in the incident rather than ensure accountability.
The disappearance of CCTV recordings has significantly undermined public trust in the police department's internal inquiry. Rambabu noted that the Supreme Court has established clear guidelines mandating that police stations maintain and preserve security camera footage for a minimum of 18 months. He openly challenged the authorities on how such vital evidence could simply vanish, thereby weakening the transparency of the entire judicial process surrounding this custodial death.
In a related development, Ambati Rambabu, accompanied by YSRC MLC M. Arun Kumar, has intensified the pressure for a formal CBI inquiry into another distressing case involving the death of Perupogu Kranthi Kumar, a youth from the Dalit community. Following a visit to the grieving family, the leaders stated that the prevailing police-led investigation is insufficient to deliver justice.
The representatives alleged that persistent harassment by local law enforcement officers had pushed Perupogu Kranthi Kumar to take the extreme step. Consequently, they are calling for an entirely independent probe into the incident to ensure that the circumstances surrounding his death are thoroughly examined. The push for outside intervention reflects a growing demand for oversight in cases where police conduct is under scrutiny, highlighting a broader issue of accountability within the state's security apparatus.
