Starting July 1, 2026, the central government is set to introduce a transformative initiative known as the Viksit Bharat G RAM G, or the Vikas Bharat-Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural). This ambitious program is designed to reshape the rural economic landscape by providing a more inclusive and robust employment framework for citizens across the nation.
The implementation of Viksit Bharat G RAM G represents a major shift from previous rural employment systems. By fostering self-reliance and empowerment, the mission seeks to create durable assets in rural regions while ensuring that every eligible family receives comprehensive support. Officials have highlighted that the scheme is structured to prevent resource duplication and enhance the overall quality of infrastructure development in villages.
Financial Allocation and Economic Impact of Viksit Bharat G RAM G
To support this nationwide endeavor, the central administration has earmarked a record-breaking budget. For the fiscal year 2026-27, a provision of Rs 95,692 crore has been set aside for this mission, marking it as one of the largest financial commitments to rural employment in the country’s history. When including contributions from individual states, the total projected expenditure for the program is expected to surpass Rs 1.51 lakh crore.
Specifically, in Rajasthan, the state has been allocated an interim amount exceeding Rs 7,581 crore from the central government. Complementing this, the Rajasthan state government has pledged an additional Rs 4,000 crore, ensuring a total investment of over Rs 11,581 crore toward rural livelihood enhancement. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma emphasized that these funds can be adjusted based on local needs to ensure no eligible household is left behind.
Enhanced Benefits and Statutory Protections for Workers
A primary feature of the Viksit Bharat G RAM G scheme is the significant expansion of employment guarantees. Eligible rural families are now entitled to 125 days of statutory employment per financial year, a notable increase from the previous 100-day limit. This initiative is aimed at households where adult members are willing to engage in unskilled manual labor, providing them with greater income stability.
The initiative also introduces structural improvements to the payment cycle. Moving beyond the traditional 15-day window, the government has transitioned to a weekly payment system. All wages will be processed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), sending funds directly into the bank or post office accounts of the workers to ensure transparency and prevent delays. Furthermore, the program includes a statutory provision for unemployment allowances if work is not provided within the specified timeframe, alongside compensation mechanisms for any potential payment delays, thereby solidifying the rights of rural laborers across India.
