New Delhi: The Central Government has announced significant changes in the rules for obtaining a Permanent Account Number (PAN) card, marking their growing importance in financial transactions. Starting April 1st, applicants must not only present an Aadhaar card but also document proving their date of birth to obtain a new PAN card.
In a recent post on Twitter by the CSCeGov, it was shared that old application forms will no longer be accepted from then onwards. As March 31st approaches, applicants can expedite the process and get their PAN cards ready in an easier manner.
By applying before March 31st, you can complete the process without providing documents for your date of birth, only using your Aadhaar card.
However, after this deadline, providing a document confirming your date of birth will be mandatory to continue the application.
To apply online from today (April 1st) onwards:, you need to visit the official National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) website. Begin by accessing the 'Apply Online' tab and select 'New PAN-Indian Citizen (Form 49A)'.
Selecting as an Individual on this category ensures that you can save time on filling out form details.
Enter your personal data such as surname, first name, date of birth, email ID, and mobile number. Complete this by entering the CAPTCHA code before clicking 'Submit'. This step sets up a Token Number for your application.
To ensure your application is complete, remember to collect the Token Number to be used if any part of it remains incomplete.
Verify this using an OTP (One Time Password) delivered via your Aadhaar card. One benefit of this process means you don't need to upload a separate photo or signature for your PAN card.
After collecting the Token Number, proceed by adding additional details such as your father's name, address and more.
Should you opt to use the e-KYC option, your Aadhaar-linked address will be automatically filled in. Next, select a payment method online for your PAN card fees.
Aadhaar authentication must be completed before submitting your form, thereby confirming all details are accurate and correctly linked.
If everything checks out, you’ll receive an OTP through the mobile number associated with your Aadhaar. Upon entering this code, your application will finally be submitted for processing.
Aadhaar card alone was sufficient up until March 31st but starting April 1st moving forward requires a combination of personal documents providing evidence of your date of birth.
This new approach aims for better security and verification in the financial system, promoting transparency and reducing fraud risk.
