Supreme Court Urges Accountability in NEET Leak Scandal

The Supreme Court of India has placed renewed emphasis on accountability following the national medical entrance test, NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test), paper leak scandal. Justice P S Narasimha and Alok Aradhe stressed that maintaining trust with the youth is paramount.

During the hearing of a case involving concerns raised by students, the bench highlighted the traumatic impact such incidents have on not only the candidates but also their families. They noted how deeply emotional these situations can be, given the rigorous preparations involved.

Sustaining Student Confidence

Key figure Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General of India, informed the bench that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is actively supervising efforts to ensure no further lapses occur. New mechanisms are in place for the re-examination set for June 21.

The Court instructed the government to file an affidavit detailing their measures, and has posted the matter for a hearing on July 10th. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently investigating the incident.

In 2024, concerns over NEET-UG paper leaks led to the cancellation of this year's entrance test for medical admissions, and a fresh attempt has been scheduled for June 21. This demonstrates the seriousness with which authorities are treating such breaches in national examinations.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), tasked with conducting the NEET exams, has faced scrutiny over its handling of past incidents.
