The Supreme Court of India is set to address a significant legal challenge concerning the NEET-UG 2026 examination. A bench presided over by Justice P S Narasimha is scheduled to hear a plea in July that contests the decision to conduct a re-test for the medical entrance exam. This follows earlier disruptions that led the National Testing Agency (NTA) to cancel the initial test held on May 3, 2026, amid widespread allegations of a paper leak.
Legal Challenges and Examination Integrity
The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice V Mohana, confirmed that the petition will be transferred to the bench headed by Justice P S Narasimha. This bench has been actively handling multiple petitions regarding the NEET-UG 2026 process. The petitioners are seeking to quash the decision to hold a re-test, which is currently scheduled to take place on June 21. As part of their request, they have also sought an interim stay on the re-test proceedings until the final verdict is reached by the apex court.
Beyond the immediate concerns of the re-test, the legal plea emphasizes a need for systemic reform in how national-level examinations are conducted. The petition calls for the implementation of advanced, technology-driven examination mechanisms.
