Delhi: In a move aimed at resolving sports-related disputes more effectively and expeditiously, the Sports Ministry has issued an invitation for applications to join the upcoming National Sports Tribunal (NST). The application window is open until June 18.

Applications Sought from Eminent Sports Figures

The ministry's joint secretary Kunal mentioned that eligible candidates should possess a combination of wide-ranging knowledge and experience in sports, public administration, and law. This ensures a balanced perspective among the tribunal members. The selected individuals will play a crucial role in adjudicating disputes, thereby fostering fair competition across different sporting disciplines.

The selection process will be carried out by a Search-cum-Selection Committee, headed by either the Chief Justice of India or any Supreme Court judge designated by him. This committee will also include the Sports Secretary and the Secretary from the Ministry of Law and Justice, guaranteeing a robust evaluation framework.

Eligible candidates can apply through the dedicated portal after meeting the specified criteria. Shortlisted applicants will undergo personal interactions where their qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role will be rigorously assessed.

The NST's jurisdiction is expected to cover all disputes related to sports governance and administration, ensuring that cases are handled more independently and cost-effectively compared to relying solely on civil courts. The tribunal will be headquartered in New Delhi and currently has no set strength or composition details from the government.

Significant Impact of NST

The creation of this tribunal is anticipated to reduce delays in resolving sports-related disputes, significantly benefiting athletes and other stakeholders involved in the sporting arena. Additionally, it aims to streamline processes and ensure a faster, more cost-efficient resolution mechanism for all concerned parties.

Note: Once operational, any appointments within the NST will be made depending on its overall assessment criteria, ensuring that all recommendations are based on comprehensive evaluations of candidates.
