Central Railways has approved a significant hike in food prices at railway stations starting this summer, impacting passenger expenses. The adjustment comes as part of an increased cost of oil and gas. Starting June 1, 2026, various popular snacks will witness price increases ranging between 29% to over 53%. Passengers can expect a substantial impact on their meal costs during journeys.

The increase in food prices is reflected across the board with some notable examples: A basic vada pav that cost Rs. 13 would now be priced at Rs. 20, marking an increase of nearly 54%. According to the information received, this update follows a Central Railway notification dated May 25, 2026.

New Price Structure for Popular Items

  • A masala dosa is now priced at Rs. 35, while a plain dosa costs Rs. 25.
  • Veg samosa and puff are available for Rs. 20 each.
  • Pav bhaji and veg pizza will cost passengers Rs. 50 each.
  • The price of a basic vada pav has increased from Rs. 13 to Rs. 20, marking a significant rise.

Passengers traveling through Northern Railway stations might notice an increase in prices for dosas and idlis, such as masala dosa at Rs. 35 and idli at Rs. 30 each. On the other hand, some popular items like misal pav, kachori, and dabeli remain unchanged at their current rates of Rs. 35, Rs. 15, and Rs. 20 respectively.

According to Northern Railway, all licensees must now prominently display the new menu and tariff in two languages. The Railways expect that these revisions will lead to improved quality of food items. It has also mandated that regular inspections should be conducted to ensure this happens as planned.
