  • Jana Sena leader calls for protection and conservation measures
  • Council resolution aimed at preventing further encroachments
  • Illegal excavations outside BRTS corridor raise concerns

Visakhapatnam's key drinking water source, the Mudasarlova Reservoir, faces several threats due to encroachments and developmental projects. Former corporator P.L.N. Murthy Yadav, a leader of Jana Sena party, called for urgent measures to safeguard this critical resource in an appeal submitted through the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS).

Concerns Over Mudasarlova Reservoir

Murthy Yadav highlighted that GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg must address the encroachment issue, which emerged as a significant concern due to the state government's conservation efforts under the Jaladhara-Jala Harathi programme. The 836.38-acre reservoir in Mudasarlova village plays a vital role in supplying drinking water to Visakhapatnam city and requires stringent preservation.

He referred to a council resolution passed on November 21, 2025, which aims to protect the reservoir comprehensively. Murthy Yadav stressed that actions should prevent further occupation of both the reservoir and its catchment lands, while opposing land allocations for railway infrastructure, recreation projects, and roads within these limits.

The advocate raised additional concerns about illegal activities, noting that excavations on around 42 acres outside BRTS corridor boundaries pose a risk to the catchment system. He called for an inquiry into such practices to ensure long-term sustainability.

Murthy Yadav emphasized the council resolution's importance and demanded strict implementation of conservation measures, arguing that these are crucial for maintaining water storage capacity and ensuring future availability.
