Following a recent period of intense and unseasonal rainfall that caused significant disruption, the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has successfully executed a comprehensive Swachh Nims drive. This campus-wide sanitation campaign was organized this past Sunday to restore the hospital premises to their required standard of cleanliness after heavy rains left behind a trail of debris, including fallen branches, scattered leaves, and accumulated waste across various sections of the facility.

The intensive cleanup operation was spearheaded by the institute’s director, Prof Rahul Devaraj, alongside the additional medical superintendent, Dr Lakshmi Bhaskar. The initiative covered critical zones of the campus, including the hospital's primary thoroughfares, various administrative and clinical buildings, meticulously maintained gardens, parking facilities, and pedestrian walkways. Dedicated teams of workers were deployed to methodically remove broken tree branches, clear away foliage, and dispose of plastic and other refuse that had gathered during the deluge.

Prioritizing Patient Hygiene and Campus Safety

Beyond the immediate removal of debris, the administration took proactive measures to ensure the long-term hygiene of the NIMS campus. A key focus of the Swachh Nims drive involved identifying and addressing specific spots where water had stagnated. By eliminating these potential breeding grounds, officials aimed to effectively prevent mosquito infestation, thereby safeguarding the health of everyone on the premises.

Prof Rahul Devaraj emphasized that maintaining stringent levels of hospital cleanliness is fundamentally critical for ensuring patient safety and promoting overall public health. He noted that providing a pristine, organized atmosphere is not only about aesthetics but is essential for reducing the inherent risks of infection within a medical environment. Furthermore, he highlighted that such surroundings help foster a sense of comfort and positivity for patients, visitors, and dedicated hospital staff members alike.

The successful execution of this cleanliness drive underscores the commitment of the NIMS administration to providing a safe and hygienic environment. By responding quickly to the aftermath of the recent weather event, the hospital has ensured that its facilities remain fully functional and welcoming for the community it serves. The effort reflects a broader commitment to operational excellence and proactive disaster recovery management in public healthcare institutions.
