Nellore, India: In anticipation of the Bakrid celebrations, district administration officials have intensified efforts to enforce stringent animal welfare laws to prevent illegal slaughter and transportation of animals. Collectors from the Nellore district, including Himanshu Shukla and Ajitha Vejendla, convened a meeting with representatives from various departments such as Animal Husbandry, Police, Municipal, Transport, and Revenue to review preparedness.
Strict Protocols for Slaughter and Welfare
The officials emphasized the importance of animal welfare by instructing that all slaughter be conducted only in certified licensed slaughterhouses after thorough veterinary inspections. This move is part of an extensive effort to ensure that animals are handled humanely and legally during the festive season.
Dr Ajitha Vejendla, Deputy Superintendent of Police, highlighted eight strategic checkpoints including V Satram, Buchi, and Musunuru toll plazas, and key locations like Marripadu and Chillakuru. These checkposts will be manned by special inspection teams to enforce the law rigorously.
Additionally, 32 police patrols will be deployed in critical areas of Nellore city to maintain order and ensure compliance with safety regulations on food and municipal laws. Public awareness campaigns on animal welfare laws are also being organized to educate citizens about their rights and responsibilities.
A strong message was conveyed regarding the prohibition of cow slaughter, calf slaughter below three years, and camels, accompanied by strict legal action against any violations in these areas. This underscores Nellore's commitment to upholding ethical standards for animal treatment across different communities.
Formation of special teams and clear directives on stringent checks are part of an overarching plan to ensure a safe and respectful celebration of Bakrid. The coordinated efforts indicate the government's dedication to maintaining public safety and order while respecting cultural traditions and legal frameworks.
