Union Minister Jitendra Singh has highlighted the transformative impact of the abrogation of Article 370, emphasizing how it has accelerated development in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) while fostering a profound shift in public mindset. Speaking at a training camp under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Prashikshan Mahabhiyan–2026 in Lakhanpur, Singh noted considerable progress made since 2014 during his tenure as a Lok Sabha representative from Udhampur.
Reform and Development
Singh stated that the removal of Article 370 has infused renewed self-confidence among J&K's youth, leading to their exceptional success in various fields. He also criticized Article 370 as contradictory to democratic values, hindering national reforms like abolishing interviews for government posts.
Noteable developments include the renaming of major projects after iconic figures, with the Chenani–Nashri Tunnel being named after Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. The establishment of three new medical colleges in Kathua and two AIIMS institutions symbolizes increased focus on healthcare infrastructure. Additionally, plans for a 3000 MW power project in J&K's eastern Kishtwar district are underway.
The minister also underscored the upcoming Biotech Park in Kathua to support local entrepreneurship and job creation. Plans for an international stadium at Hiranagar near Jammu on nearly 300 kanal of land demonstrate the government's commitment to sports infrastructure.
