Modi Calls for Nationwide Efforts to Cope with Severe Heatwaves

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently called for a comprehensive, nationwide approach to tackle the ongoing heatwave affecting significant parts of India. During a Cabinet meeting focused on public safety measures, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the situation was thoroughly reviewed across various ministries and departments.

Mitigating Heatwaves: A Whole-of-Nation Approach

Modi highlighted the need for coordinated action between central government agencies, state governments, and citizens. Emphasizing public safety and relief measures during extreme temperatures, the Prime Minister urged individuals to take precautions like staying hydrated and avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours. He also advised families to look after elderly members who are particularly vulnerable.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several regions in central and northwest India—such as Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and parts of Rajasthan—are likely to experience severe heatwaves over the next few days. These warnings have prompted authorities to issue public advisories regarding safety measures.

The discussions during the Cabinet meeting included measures related to health services, water supply, and infrastructure to support citizens effectively in high-temperature conditions. Steps were outlined to ensure that affected communities receive timely relief and assistance.
