The Maharashtra Police has officially upgraded the security status for six rebel Members of Parliament (MPs) affiliated with the Shiv Sena (UBT). This directive was formalised through a communication issued by Shirish Jain, the Commissioner of Intelligence, on June 17, 2026. The identified lawmakers are now under the protection of Y-Plus security, a measure implemented with immediate effect.
Details of the Y-Plus Security Deployment
The individuals granted this enhanced Y-Plus security coverage include Sanjay Dina Patil representing Mumbai-Northeast, Sanjay Deshmukh of Yavatmal-Washim, and Sanjay Jadhav from Parbhani. Additionally, the list includes Bhausaheb Wakchaure (Shirdi), Nagesh Patil-Ashtikar (Hingoli), and Omprakash Raje Nimbalkar (Osmanabad). The decision follows rising political tensions within the party hierarchy.
The core issue appears to stem from a significant internal rift within the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction. These specific MPs reportedly failed to participate in a vital parliamentary party gathering held in Delhi on Thursday, an action perceived by the party leadership as a formal breach of discipline. This move has triggered intense reactions from within the party ranks, highlighting the severity of the ongoing political instability.
The atmosphere surrounding these lawmakers has become increasingly volatile. Reports indicate that a local Shiv Sena (UBT) leader based in Washim issued a stern warning to Sanjay Deshmukh, suggesting that he would face severe opposition—including the potential destruction of his vehicle—should he attempt to return to his constituency without first relinquishing his parliamentary seat following a change in political allegiance.
Political Tensions and Public Reactions
The situation has escalated with sharp rhetoric from high-profile party members. Sanjay Raut, the sole Rajya Sabha MP representing the Shiv Sena (UBT), publicly criticized the absentee lawmakers on Thursday. His comments underscored the depth of the betrayal perceived by party loyalists. Furthermore, party supporters in Dharashiv have expressed strong disapproval, threatening that those who choose to defect from the organization will face public humiliation and will be restricted from moving freely throughout their respective constituencies. The provision of Y-Plus security reflects the authorities' assessment of the potential risks these politicians now face amidst these heightened internal conflicts.
