A long-standing case of lorry theft has finally reached a conclusion following the apprehension of an accused individual who had been evading law enforcement for over a decade. The Haliyal police successfully tracked down the suspect in Telangana, ending a search that began in 2014.
The individual, identified as Madhu Yuvaraj Aihole, a resident of Kudachi in the Belagavi district, was a primary suspect in two separate vehicle theft incidents reported at the Haliyal police station eleven years ago. While investigators had managed to arrest six other accomplices shortly after the crimes were committed—subsequently recovering the stolen assets and submitting charge sheets to the court—Aihole had managed to disappear after being granted bail in 2014.
Successful Tracking of the Lorry Theft Suspect
Following his release on bail, the suspect failed to present himself for judicial proceedings, which led to the issuance of a warrant for his arrest. For years, Madhu Yuvaraj Aihole remained off the radar, effectively avoiding capture until a specialized team from Haliyal received fresh intelligence regarding his whereabouts. Utilizing technical analysis and ground-level investigation, the officers located him residing in Band Mailaram, a village situated in the Ranga Reddy district of Telangana.
The operation concluded on June 13, when police teams successfully took the suspect into custody. He was subsequently presented before a magistrate and has been remanded to judicial custody to face the long-pending charges. Authorities have noted that the individual is linked to several additional criminal complaints across various jurisdictions. These include cases filed at the Nandgad and Malmaruti police stations in Belagavi, the Kasabapete police station in Hubballi, as well as the initial two counts of lorry theft in Haliyal.
Police Coordination and Operational Oversight
This successful apprehension highlights the persistence of regional law enforcement agencies in pursuing cold cases. The operation was executed under the strategic guidance of senior officials, including Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police Deepan MN, Additional Superintendent of Police Krishnamurthy G, and Dandeli DSP Shivanand Madarakandi. The primary investigative effort was spearheaded by Haliyal Circle Police Inspector Jayapal Patil. By successfully locating the fugitive, the police have demonstrated their commitment to ensuring that individuals accused of major property crimes are eventually held accountable, regardless of how long they manage to remain in hiding.
