Visakhapatnam: On a recent visit, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha reviewed the operational readiness of the elite Greyhounds unit in Visakhapatnam and underscored the need for continued vigilance against Left Wing Extremism (LWE), despite a current decline in activity. The inspection came on the heels of a recent review meeting convened by Union Home Minister with affected states to bolster coordinated anti-Maoist operations across India.
Security Preparations and Training Enhancement
Interacting with security personnel, Anitha directed them to remain vigilant and maintain maximum operational readiness. She emphasized that the recent lull in extremist activity should not breed complacency, and highlighted the importance of intelligence-based operations combined with continuous preparedness.
The minister commended the Greyhounds for their discipline, professionalism, and operational efficiency. Anitha also visited upgraded facilities at the Greyhounds Training Centre, including modern firing ranges, synthetic endurance tracks, indoor and outdoor conditioning units, as well as specialized water surveillance and combat training systems. Further accolades were given to personnel who recently won honours in the All India Commando Competition, with their achievements reflecting a high standard of training, endurance, and commitment.
Strengthening regional defense mechanisms is crucial in maintaining stability against potential threats, highlighted Anitha during her visit. She praised the Greyhounds for their ongoing efforts and reiterated the importance of strategic planning to prevent surprise attacks that could exploit current conditions of reduced activity.
