Dharamsala, September 2023: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batting icon Virat Kohli has once again made history by becoming the first player to score four successive seasons with 600-plus runs each in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This remarkable achievement came in Qualifier one against Gujarat Titans, where he scored an impressive 43 off just 25 balls, showcasing his consistency and prowess as a T20 cricketer.
Evolution from Slump to Superstar
After experiencing a slight dip in performance during the 2022 IPL, where he scored only 341 runs and failed to secure a fifty run-scoring effort in his 16 matches, Kohli has made a roaring comeback. His journey from a slump to a T20 international retirement plan
Since his last T20 International (T20I) retirement in 2024, Kohli has consistently demonstrated improvements. His first resurgence came during the 2023 IPL season, where he ended with 639 runs at a staggering average of 53.25. Toppling opponents' scores became second nature; with two centuries and six half-centuries, Kohli redefined his batting game.
The subsequent 2024 season saw Kohli unleash some of the most devastating innings, leading him to set another record. By scoring an astounding 741 runs in 15 innings, he not only broke records but showcased extraordinary adaptability and effectiveness against spin, marking his second successive milestone with a whopping five fifties.
In the final IPL edition of last year before retirement, Kohli was instrumental in RCB's title triumph. Leading from the front, he amassed 657 runs, achieving eight half-centuries and ensuring RCB took the top spot with his impeccable batting in diverse conditions.
Berating Gujarat Titans after winning the toss, RCB elected to field first. This decision proved to be a tactical masterstroke as Kohli's aggressive style helped his team secure a crucial victory during this high-stakes encounter.
