During the extreme summer heat, traveling by train can be an unpleasant experience. However, a recent special facility introduced by Indian Railways has made it possible to travel in air-conditioned (AC) compartments with a sleeper class ticket—providing much-needed respite for weary travelers.
Travel AC with Sleeper Class Ticket
The Indian Railways have clarified that if you possess a sleeper class ticket, there is an opportunity to travel in the AC compartment with permission from the Train Conductor Enquirer (TTE). This temporary relief allows passengers to enjoy the cool environment of AC coaches while traveling during hot summer months.
However, it's crucial to understand that this facility isn't always guaranteed. If there are vacant seats available in an AC coach, you might be upgraded upon payment of the fare difference. But if the AC coach is fully booked, the chance of a last-minute upgrade diminishes. For instance, with a sleeper class ticket priced at Rs 400 and an AC ticket costing Rs 1,200, travelers would have to pay the additional Rs 800.
It's paramount for passengers who board without seeking permission from the TTE to realize that strict action may be taken. In such cases, not only will the difference in fare be charged, but a fine might also apply. However, if valid reasons can be provided, travelers might be re-routed to a sleeper coach at the next station instead of being fined.
This rule is clearly defined under Indian Railway rules, which specify that passengers must remain in their designated coach until upgraded by TTE. Any unauthorized movement could result in fines and higher charges.
