The Indian government has issued a directive to millions of domestic LPG customers, urging them to complete the electronic KYC (e-KYC) process through biometric Aadhaar authentication. This proactive step aims to ensure that LPG connections are used only by legitimate consumers, particularly in light of concerns over dwindling availability of LPG cylinders and geopolitical tensions in the global energy market.
Consumers can easily complete the e-KYC process from the comfort of their homes using their smartphones, a process that typically takes just a few minutes. The process verifies the identities of LPG users and guarantees accurate gas connection information is recorded.
To complete the e-KYC, consumers must download their LPG provider's mobile app, log in, and select the e-KYC option. Next, they need to carry out Aadhaar-related verification by downloading the Aadhaar FaceRD app and completing biometric authentication.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has emphasized that completing the e-KYC is cost-free and straightforward, with the aim of making the gas distribution system more transparent and efficient. The move is also designed to ensure that subsidy benefits reach genuine consumers and that gas subsidy funds are correctly allocated to their bank accounts.
