ANANTAPUR: In a significant move, the Anantapur police have dismantled an organized ganja trafficking gang comprising fourteen members and seized seven kilograms of the drug. District superintendent P. Jagadeesh disclosed that this operation was successful due to innovative use of ganja testing kits.
The ringleader, 36-year-old Shikari Suresh, hailing from Nehru Colony, has a long criminal record with multiple cases against him involving thefts and excise violations. The gang sourced their supply directly from an unknown supplier near the Guntakal Railway Station at ₹10,000 per kilogram and transported it into Anantapur using trusted individuals who had prior illegal records.
Operation's Success: Using Testing Kits to Catch Sellers
The police identified potential drug users through ganja testing kits. Once inside the city, nine gang members repackaged the ganja and sold it at higher prices to habitual users and young people. Surveillance and interrogations revealed hidden connections leading to the supply chain's exposure.
Among those arrested were Shikari Mallappa, Bharat, Parashuram, and Ravi. The police also emphasized their commitment to rehabilitation through counseling for drug users while taking strict action against suppliers. This operation has significantly disrupted the local ganja trade in Anantapur.
