- •Speculations about possible leadership change remain unfounded
India's Congress party focused its recent meeting with Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar exclusively on the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and state council elections, dispelling speculations of leadership changes within the party.
Rajya Sabha and Council Elections as Top Priority
During a detailed discussion in New Delhi, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal highlighted that the meeting with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi centered entirely around candidates for the Rajya Sabha seats in Karnataka. The ministerial duo participated along with Surjewala, who is in charge of the party in Karnataka.
"Today's discussion was solely confined to preparing the strategy for the upcoming elections and deciding the candidates. We have no basis for speculations about leadership changes," Venugopal stated firmly to press reporters. "We will soon announce our candidates but nothing else emerged from today's meeting," he added.
The speculation regarding a possible change in Karnataka Congress leadership intensified after the party leaders initiated discussions with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, adding tension within the ranks of the state's ruling administration. Meanwhile, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar's associates have also claimed that he might become the next Chief Minister.
Despite these rumors, Venugopal emphasized, "Whatever speculations you're hearing are not based on any reality at all."
