Chennai: In a bid to address concerns raised by stranded passengers, Transport Minister A. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban visited the Kilambakkam mofussil bus terminus late on Wednesday night and vowed to improve transportation facilities.

During his inspection of the terminus, the minister emphasized the need for separate arrangements for reserved and unreserved passengers, stating that an additional 1,075 buses would be operated from Kilambakkam, Koyambedu, and Madhavaram terminuses. "Let us not talk about what happened in the past," he added, expressing his commitment to better future services.

Addressing Passengers' Complaints

The minister listened to passengers' grievances who were waiting for their buses late into the night. They complained of insufficient buses, especially for Madurai, Tiruchi, Thoothukudi, Karaikudi, Kumbakonam, Thuraiyur, and Perambalur routes. Passengers also expressed frustration over delayed bus arrivals despite having reserved tickets.

Mr Parthiban reassured the passengers that measures would be taken to operate additional buses from various parts of Chennai to Kilambakkam terminus. He stayed till nearly 2 a.m. on Thursday, ensuring no one was left behind as they departed for their respective destinations.

Highlighting the current rush at the terminus due to Bakrid holidays, wedding festivities, and summer vacations, the minister's visit underscored the need for proactive measures in bus scheduling and management. Prior to the visit, he held a review meeting with transport officials, outlining the improvement of revenue and transportation services.

The meeting focused on enhancing IT integration to streamline operations, providing clean drinking water, and addressing passenger shelters at terminuses. Modernizing buses and improving food quality during stops were other key areas discussed by the officials.

By engaging passengers directly and emphasizing future-oriented actions, Minister Parthiban aims to alleviate current transport woes in Chennai during festive times.
