Hyderabad: In a scathing attack, BJP leaders have accused the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government of failing farmers by making false claims on paddy procurement. During a series of visits as part of the BJP Bharosa yatra, party officials interacted with distraught farmers who are guarding their harvest and facing extreme hardships.
BJP floor leader A. Maheshwar Reddy, along with MLAs Paidi Rakesh Reddy, Rama Rao Patel, Venkata Ramana Reddy, and former MP Boora Narasaiah Goud, visited agricultural markets and the Vadipatti procurement center in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. They noted that 30 lorries were only arranged after their arrival at Ghazipally, emphasizing that the administration had "slept for 40 days" before taking any action.
Paddy Procurement Claims Under Scrutiny
Despite the Chief Minister's claims of 80% procurement, BJP leaders argue this is a "shameful" falsehood. Maheshwar Reddy emphasized that farmers are facing hardships not just with paddy but also jowar and sunflower, while chickpea procurement has yet to begin. He highlighted that promises under the Warangal Declaration remain unfulfilled as 30 farmers have been guarding heaps of paddy for over 30 days in harsh weather conditions.
The BJP leadership further pointed out that the situation could be exacerbated with the pending arrival of monsoons, given farmers are without sacks or cover. The party also criticized the government's failure to address the issue within a week, demanding an explanation from the Chief Minister on his promises about purchasing every grain at MSP.
Additionally, in Mulugu, Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender and BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao met farmers, who alleged 45 days of sleepless nights beneath paddy heaps without proper care or relief. Farmers face the additional burden of selling paddy at ₹600 per quintal below the market price due to the lack of support from procurement authorities.
The BJP leadership highlighted not only the plight of farmers but also broader governance issues, accusing both BRS and the current Congress administration of operating under the influence of the Majlis. They criticized initiatives like housing schemes as merely showcasing a few unfinished projects while the majority remain without shelter, citing corruption in past relief funds as evidence to back their claims.
