BHOPAL: Amid internal political turbulence within the ruling BJP, state urban development minister Kailash Vijayvargiya appears to be mulling a move from the Madhya Pradesh legislative assembly (MLA) seat to the Rajya Sabha. The speculation intensifies after Vijayvargiya recently met Union home minister Amit Shah in Delhi and subsequently discussed with Hemant Khandelwal, state BJP president.
Seeking Central Nomination
Vijayvargiya's discussions with key party leaders have heightened speculations that he is lobbying for a Rajya Sabha nomination. Despite these whispers, the minister has chosen to remain tight-lipped on his intentions.
The recent controversy over water contamination in Indore, where Vijayvargiya spearheaded reforms from the MLA seat, has reportedly affected his standing within the party.
State BJP sources suggested that Vijayvargiya's name was among a dozen candidates evaluated by the Central party for potential Rajya Sabha nominations. Other notable prospective nominees include former minister Arvind Bhadoria and Union minister Suresh Pachauri.
The move to fill three vacant Rajya Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh is set for June 18, following the expiration of terms by three current MPs. While the BJP currently enjoys a significant advantage in securing two nominations, political observers fear potential manipulation efforts by the opposition Congress, particularly via its CLP.
However, the BJPs strategy remains opaque at this juncture as no official announcements have been made regarding the final candidature of Vijayvargiya or any other party member.
