Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of the AIMIM, has initiated a sharp critique directed at both the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The remarks center on the ongoing trend of political defections, with the Hyderabad MP questioning the internal ability of these party leaderships to retain their members amid shifting allegiances toward the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Political Defections and Leadership Accountability
Utilizing social media, Asaduddin Owaisi highlighted that members of the Shiv Sena (UBT), led by Uddhav Thackeray, are reportedly considering switching sides. He challenged the party's prominent figures to address the underlying reasons behind these departures rather than merely attributing them to external pressure. The AIMIM chief argued that attributing widespread organizational instability solely to a specific individual overlooks deeper systemic issues within these political groups.
Turning his focus toward West Bengal, Owaisi also questioned the departure of numerous TMC leaders who have recently transitioned to the BJP. He suggested that blaming others for these large-scale political defections serves as a deflection from genuine internal failures. By invoking a sense of accountability, the AIMIM president emphasized that such transitions are becoming increasingly frequent, which he believes warrants a more serious internal evaluation by the opposition leadership.
Regional Political Tremors in Maharashtra and Bengal
The political landscapes in both Maharashtra and West Bengal are currently facing significant instability. In Maharashtra, discussions regarding a potential operation, unofficially dubbed as Operation Tiger, have gained momentum. Reports suggest that a majority of Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs may be in contact with the faction led by Eknath Shinde, potentially mirroring the 2022 split that divided the original party structure. While Chandrakant Raghuvanshi, an MLC, claimed that several members have already expressed their support for the Shinde faction, no official confirmation has been issued by the parties involved.
Meanwhile, in West Bengal, the situation remains equally complex. On June 14, a group of twenty rebel TMC MPs formally communicated with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, submitting a proposal regarding the merger of their segment with the Tripura-based Nationalist Congress Party of India (NCPI). Owaisi concluded his commentary with a metaphorical remark, stating, "Shikari naya hai, jal puraana hai," implying that while the actors in the political arena may have changed, the tactics used to maneuver these shifts remain consistent with established patterns in the country's complex political theater.
