Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh is accelerating progress on the Mudkhed–Medchal railway doubling project with a detailed land acquisition plan. Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad updated Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a PRAGATI video conference in New Delhi, where he provided a comprehensive update on infrastructure developments across India.

A total of 23.07 hectares of private land is required for the Dhone–Mahbubnagar segment within Andhra Pradesh limits. Sai Prasad confirmed that the Section 20(A) notification was issued on September 25, 2025. In Kurnool district alone, about 18.21 hectares across 16 villages will be affected. Peg marking has been completed in eight out of these villages with railway authority cooperation; efforts continue for the remaining locations.

The government aims to issue the Section 20(E) notification within two weeks. In Nandyal district, this step has already been taken after peg marking was completed on 4.86 hectares of land. Notably, 4.05 hectares of government land is also under transfer, which will be handed over immediately upon formal requisition from railway authorities in line with existing directives.

Other infrastructure projects discussed during the PRAGATI meeting included the progress on railway lines in Uttar Pradesh and other states, expansion works for Kolkata Metro, renewable energy transmission projects linked to Rajasthan's systems, the Vadhavan Port connectivity road project in Maharashtra, and implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban 2.0.

During the meeting, Union Cabinet Secretary Dr T.V. Somanathan and Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar participated from New Delhi while senior officials from key departments attended from Andhra Pradesh.
