The state revenue department has officially launched the process of land acquisition for a proposed industrial park in Adilabad. Local authorities have conducted several gram sabhas in the villages of Rampur and Gimma within Bhoraj mandal to facilitate the initial stages of the project. These meetings, held on Friday and Saturday, took place under police security to ensure a smooth administrative process.
Additional discussions are scheduled to continue in Guda village, as the government moves forward with its development plans. Adilabad RDO Jagadeeshwar Rao and Bhoraj Tahasildar Babu Singh have been actively participating in these outreach meetings to engage with the affected local residents and landowners.
Project Scope and Land Classification
Revenue authorities have identified a total of 2,062.01 acres spread across four different villages in Bhoraj mandal for this new industrial project. The breakdown of the identified land includes 259.23 acres in Guda, 333.38 acres in Rampur, 274.09 acres in Gimma-(B), and a significant portion of 1,194.11 acres in Hattighat.
To determine appropriate compensation, the department plans to categorize the land based on its productivity level, specifically distinguishing between fertile, semi-agricultural, and barren tracts. This land acquisition strategy aims to ensure that compensation is reflective of the land's utility and the farmers' economic dependence on their fields.
Compensation Demands from Local Farmers
During the recent consultation at the Rampur gram sabha, officials mentioned that the state government might offer a base rate of ₹12 lakh per acre. However, this proposal was met with resistance from the local community. Villagers argued that the proposed amount is insufficient, as many families rely entirely on their agricultural income. Consequently, residents of Rampur are seeking ₹25 lakh per acre and have expressed their intention to hold a dedicated gram sabha to pass a formal resolution regarding this demand.
The sentiment is similar in other affected areas. At the meeting held in Gimma, farmers from Hattighat raised their expectations even higher, demanding ₹40 lakh per acre. They emphasized that their land is highly fertile and essential for their livelihoods, making a higher compensation package necessary. The land acquisition process for the Adilabad industrial park formally began with a preliminary notification issued on May 29, targeting 1,194.11 acres from 299 farmers in Hattighat. As consultations continue across the region, the administration faces the ongoing task of balancing project requirements with the concerns and financial expectations of the local farming community.
