In a significant move, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has clinched a 10-year marine services contract to serve as the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project in Argentina. This new agreement marks APSEZ's entry into South America and expands its international footprint.
The contract, awarded to Adani Harbour International FZCO through a consortium with Argentina-based Meridian Group, was selected following a global competitive tender process conducted by Southern Energy SA (SESA). The award comes at the backdrop of APSEZ's strong operational presence across energy logistics, bolstering its capabilities in specialised marine services.
Enhanced Services and Tugboat Operations
The consortium will provide a range of end-to-end marine services including tugboat operations, offshore logistics, supply support, and crew transfer services. This partnership is supported by four high-specification tugboats, one anchor handling tug supply vessel, and one crew boat. These resources ensure that the project runs smoothly and efficiently.
Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO of APSEZ, highlighted: 'With over 12 operational marine locations and a growing fleet supporting ports, LNG terminals, national oil companies, refineries, and offshore facilities, we bring deep expertise to complex maritime environments.'
He added, 'By combining these capabilities with local partnerships, we are creating reliable maritime ecosystems that enable new energy trade corridors and strengthen long-term supply resilience.'
Bolstering Argentina's LNG export ambitions, this project is a milestone. The Southern Energy FLNG project, developed by SESA, aims to support up to 10 million tonnes of LNG exports annually from 2027. Positioned in the San Matias Gulf, Ri&o Negro Province, the Hilli Episeyo vessel will process natural gas into LNG.
This strategic investment underlines APSEZ's commitment to international growth and underscores Argentina's emerging role as a significant global LNG player. The joint venture Meridian Transportes Maritimos SA has been established by Adani Harbour International FZCO and Meridian Group, ensuring seamless project execution.
