Visakhapatnam POCSO Case: Accused Attacks Victim Over Marriage Refusal
A youth accused in a POCSO case in Visakhapatnam attacked his victim with scissors after she refused to marry him. The incident occurred in Pendurthi, and police are now initiating attempted murder charges against the assailant following medical treatment.

In a disturbing incident reported in Visakhapatnam, a youth facing charges in a POCSO case allegedly attacked his victim using a pair of scissors. The violent episode occurred late Thursday evening within the limits of Duggavanipalem village, situated in the Pendurthi mandal, leaving the young victim with minor injuries to her neck area.
Details of the Assault and Background
The individual accused in the POCSO case has been identified as Sai Chandra. Law enforcement officials revealed that the two had been acquaintances since 2022 and had previously lived together at the accused's residence in Payakaraopeta. At the time of their initial association, the victim was a minor, and her mother had expressed strong opposition to their relationship. This conflict led to the mother filing a formal complaint, which resulted in the arrest and remand of both Sai Chandra and the girl's mother under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in April 2022.
Following his release on bail on May 6, 2026, the accused reportedly brought the girl to Visakhapatnam on June 15. After staying in the city for two days, the pair moved to the residence of the accused’s aunt located in Gopalapatnam. However, after the aunt raised objections regarding their stay, Sai Chandra relocated to a room in Pendurthi.
Police Investigation and Current Status
According to reports, the situation escalated when the girl refused the persistent marriage demands made by Sai Chandra. Following her refusal, the accused reportedly consumed a harmful chemical substance. While he was undergoing medical treatment at the residence, he continued his efforts to pressure the girl into marriage. When she maintained her refusal, he physically assaulted her with scissors, resulting in neck injuries.
Following the victim's complaint, local police intervened to provide her with security, transferring her to the King George Hospital (KGH) for medical assessment and eventually moving her to a government-run protective home. Sai Chandra was also transported to KGH for medical care. Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that a case of attempted murder is set to be filed against Sai Chandra as soon as he is discharged from medical supervision.
