ANANTAPUR: In a close call that could have spelled disaster, the Vande Bharat Express train recently avoided a major incident after hitting a cow between Hindupur and Devarapalli railway stations in the Gowribidnur taluka of Sri Sathya Sai district. According to sources, this near-accident occurred on a Sunday afternoon when the high-speed train was en route from Kacheguda to Bengaluru.
As the Vande Bharat approached Devarapalli, a cow suddenly strayed onto the tracks, leaving the pilot with insufficient time to avoid an impact. The high-speed train struck and killed the cow on the spot, though it's fortunate that no passengers were injured in this mishap.
Ensuring Safety
The impact with a cow caused extensive damage to the front portion of the Vande Bharat, but pilot interventions ensured that the train's safety measures came into play. With emergency procedures implemented and passenger safety paramount, it was not until nearly an hour after the incident that services resumed following thorough restoration work.
Railway authorities are now probing this incident to understand better the events leading up to the collision. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to preventing cattle movement near railway tracks in future, emphasizing the importance of public safety and train operations harmony.
