Highlights

  • Skoda issues a comprehensive recall on 221 Kodiaq SUVs
  • Defect in front seat inner frame could hinder airbag deployment
  • Manufacturer recommends thorough inspection and free part replacement
  • Kodiaq features robust performance and safety standards

Skoda Auto India has issued a comprehensive recall on 221 Kodiaq SUVs manufactured between March 10 and December 8, 2025. The affected vehicles are suspected of having an unexplained technical defect in the front seat inner frame that could hinder the side airbag deployment during a crash. This defect might compromise passenger safety significantly by delaying or preventing critical airbags from activating.

Technical Defect and Safety Concerns

According to Skoda India, this defect involves damage to the edge of the Kodiaq's front seat inner frame. If not addressed quickly, it could substantially diminish the effectiveness of side airbags. In such an event, passengers may face a significantly higher risk of injury due to delayed or limited airbag deployment.

Skoda plans to thoroughly inspect all impacted models and replace any faulty components without additional costs for the owners. This move comes as a precautionary measure to ensure continued safety standards among its luxury vehicles while minimizing inconveniences to customers.

The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq, launched in India last April, features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine that produces 201 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. Paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive (AWD), the Kodiaq remains a robust competitor, especially in rugged terrains.

Currently priced between ₹39.99 lakh and ₹48.69 lakh (ex-showroom), this SUV competes with similar models like the Volkswagen Tayron in the premium segment. With its luxurious features and strong performance, the Kodiaq is a viable option for those seeking a combination of safety and advanced functionalities.

Consumers should take this recall seriously to avoid potential risks while on the road. It's advised that owners get their vehicles inspected to confirm the absence of such defects, ensuring continued peace of mind in their driving experience.
