Osmania University has officially become the first educational institution in India to secure four prestigious ISO certifications simultaneously. This remarkable achievement reflects the university's commitment to maintaining global standards across various operational facets, setting a new benchmark for higher education in the country. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) officially conferred these credentials during a formal ceremony held at the university's senate hall in Hyderabad.

Meeting International Quality Standards

The certifications received include ISO 21001:2018 for educational organizations management systems, ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management systems, ISO 50001:2018 for energy management systems, and ISO 22000:2018 for food safety management systems. By achieving these four certifications at once, Osmania University has demonstrated its dedication to operational excellence in diverse areas, ranging from academic administration and energy efficiency to environmental sustainability and stringent food safety protocols.

Sandeep Kumar Kanojia, who serves as the deputy director general of the southern region and Scientist ‘F’ at the BIS, presented the certificates to university leadership. While acknowledging the significance of this milestone, Kanojia emphasized that the real challenge lies in the continuous maintenance and iterative improvement of these quality standards, noting that this is a key step in a broader quality journey rather than the ultimate destination.

Reflecting on this 109-year-old institution's achievement, Vice-chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram highlighted that the university remains focused on forward-thinking progress. He stated that by aligning internal processes with internationally recognized benchmarks, the institution is better positioned to navigate future academic challenges while consistently meeting the evolving needs of both its student body and the wider society.

Registrar Prof. G. Naresh Reddy noted that this recognition is expected to serve as a model for governance and quality management practices in other higher education institutions throughout India. The effort was spearheaded by the university's internal quality assurance cell, which worked alongside numerous academic and administrative departments to integrate these robust international standards into the institution's existing framework.
