THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Cabinet recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of Additional District Magistrate, Naveen Babu. Babu, who served as the ADMM for Kannur district, died in 2024 from suicide just hours after a public farewell function at the Kannur District Collectorate saw allegations of corruption against him by former District Panchayat President, P.P. Divya.

The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan. The Chief Minister stated that the CBI probe was initiated following a petition submitted by Babu's wife, Manjusha, to further investigate the circumstances of his death. Additionally, the Revenue Department is mandated to provide employment on compassionate grounds to Naveen Babu's daughter.

Background and Aftermath

Naveen Babu was found dead in his official residence on October 14, 2024. His death came a day after P. P. Divya made allegations of corruption against him during the public farewell function, which reportedly caused immense humiliation to Babu. Divya is the sole accused in the case and faced significant consequences following public outrage. She was stripped of her positions within the party, demoted from the district committee to a lower-level branch committee, and removed from the post as District Panchayat President.
