Jaishankar, presiding over the significant gathering, highlighted the necessity of trusted partnerships to ensure peace and prosperity within this volatile expanse.
The Quad meeting brought together key figures from Australia, Japan, and the United States - marking a cohesive effort towards addressing various challenges in the Indo-Pacific region. Minister Jaishankar warned against rising concerns over China's aggressive maritime activities and stressed that strategic confidence, maritime security, economic choices, and collaboration are paramount.
In his opening remarks, Jaishankar stated, "The focus will clearly be on the Indo-Pacific, which is the specific limit of the Quad. Each one of them offers a new argument for more partnerships." He elaborated that addressing issues like supply chain resilience, connectivity choke points, manufacturing and resource concentrations, and gaps in critical infrastructure was essential.
Maintaining Maritime Security: Jaishankar explicitly called for enhancing strategic confidence and maritime security within the Indo-Pacific region. This is crucial given China's increasing military assertiveness in neighboring waters.

Australia's Minister Penny Wong highlighted the potential of the Quad to become even stronger, echoing a joint commitment to ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that collective efforts can address critical issues like energy security, freedom of navigation, and crucial mineral resources in the region.
