A local court in Hyderabad has officially rescheduled the proceedings for the Sandhya Theatre stampede case to July 6. The legal matter, which originated from a tragic incident during a film premiere, continues to move through the judicial system as authorities seek accountability.
The case revolves around a stampede that occurred at the Sandhya 70 MM theatre, which resulted in the unfortunate death of one woman and left her eight-year-old son with grievous injuries. The incident took place during the high-profile premiere screening of the movie 'Pushpa 2', when a large crowd of fans gathered in hopes of catching a glimpse of the lead actor, Allu Arjun.
Judicial Developments in the Stampede Case
During the most recent court session held on Monday, Allu Arjun, who is listed as the 11th accused (A11) in the charge sheet, did not appear in person. His legal representative submitted a petition requesting an exemption from personal attendance, proposing that the actor be permitted to appear via virtual means, citing his professional commitments in Mumbai for an ongoing film shoot. While the actor was absent, the other individuals named in the legal documents were present before the court.
The Chikkadpally police initiated the investigation shortly after the tragedy, registering a First Information Report (FIR) and filing a comprehensive charge sheet against 23 individuals by the final week of December 2025. Following a formal review of the charges, the court issued summons to all relevant parties, including the actor, to face the allegations.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
The investigation has cast a wide net, naming several individuals associated with the facility as primary accused in the case. The list of those charged includes the theatre's owner, various partners, the facility manager, the staff responsible for the lower-balcony area, and the gatekeeper. These individuals are identified as accused one through ten in the official charge sheet.
In the aftermath of the event, the local police took decisive action by registering a case against Allu Arjun, members of his personal security detail, and the management of the Sandhya Theatre. The charges were filed under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Chikkadpally police station, following a formal complaint lodged by the family of the deceased woman. Following the registration of the case, the actor was briefly placed under arrest before being released on bail. The legal community and the public now await the next session, scheduled for July 6, to see how the court addresses the pending petitions and the broader case proceedings.
