Highlights

  • Telangana High Court permits impleading of 65 selected candidates as respondents
  • Petitioners question selection based on BTech/BE qualifications lacking necessary diploma
  • Court agrees to further hear the challenge by June 25, Telangana Recruits involved
  • Impacts nearly 614 candidates who may face eligibility concerns

The Telangana High Court has granted permission for the impleading of 65 selected candidates as respondents in a legal challenge against the eligibility criteria used during the 2022 recruitment process by the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC).Justice K. Sarath delivered this order while hearing a petition filed by Kolakani Shashi Kumar and eight others, who questioned the inclusion of candidates with BTech/BE qualifications who lacked the mandatory Diploma in Engineering required for assistant engineers, municipal assistant engineers, technical officers, and junior technical officers.

The petitioners highlighted that out of 787 provisionally selected candidates, only 173 held the prescribed diploma. They argued that these remaining 614 candidates did not meet the minimum eligibility requirements set for various departments including public health, panchayat raj, groundwater initiatives, roads and buildings, and irrigation. However, considering the financial burden, they had initially sought to implead just 65 representative respondents across different categories. The court has thus permitted their request.

Why This Case Matters for TGPSC Recruits

The decision carries significant implications as it may impact nearly 614 recruits who were selected based on criteria that the petitioners claim violate existing rules. The matter is scheduled to be further heard on June 25, setting a precedent for future public service recruitments in Telangana.

According to court records, this legal challenge has raised key considerations regarding administrative compliance and transparency in government recruitment processes, impacting the validity of selections made based on disputed eligibility requirements. This case serves as a critical juncture, potentially reshaping how such selection procedures are conducted moving forward in similar jurisdictions.
