Hema Malini Receives Padma Vibhushan on Late Dharmendra's Behalf

Veteran actress Hema Malini received the prestigious Padma Vibhushan on behalf of the late actor, Dharmendra. The ceremony was marked by intense emotion for both Hema and her family members present at the event. She described walking up to the dais as a highly emotional moment that brought tears to the eyes of her younger daughter Ahana.

Hema Malini expressed immense joy over the government's decision, though she conceded it was bittersweet given Dharmendra's passing. 'My younger daughter Ahana accompanied me to the ceremony and couldn't hold back her tears as I walked towards the stage,' Hema explained. 'I am filled with joy that the Government considered Dharamji worthy of this honour. He should have received it while he was still with us, but every recognition is welcome at any time,' she added.

The Padma Vibhushan honor strikes a chord for Hema Malini and her family as they recall Dharmendra's career. Reflecting on how he would have felt, Hema shared, 'He would have been very happy. He often felt that he never received enough recognition for his performances. At the same time, he believed the love of millions of fans was recognition enough.' Even some of Dharmendra's best films such as Satyakam, Pratigya, Anupama, and Chupke Chupke went unawarded despite their critical acclaim. 'This Padma Vibhushan is a sufficient compensation for all those missed opportunities,' Hema concluded.
