UPI (Unified Payment Interface) has revolutionized mobile payments by simplifying recurring bill and payment services. However, it's easy to fall into the trap of automatic deductions from your bank account through UPI AutoPay.
This feature automatically debits money on designated dates but can be a hassle when you no longer need or use certain subscriptions or services. In this article, we'll guide you step-by-step on how to manage and disable this function in popular apps like Paytm, PhonePe, and GPay, ensuring your finances remain clear.
How UPI AutoPay Works
UPI AutoPay is designed for recurring payments such as electricity bills, mobile recharge, or app subscriptions. Once you authorize it, the system automatically deducts the specified amount on the set date without further action from you. However, many users are not aware of this until they notice their accounts draining over time.
Mistakes can happen when we subscribe to free trials for apps and forget to cancel payments after the trial or once the service is no longer needed. Simply uninstalling the app does not stop these automatic deductions; you need to cancel them manually through the respective UPI app's settings section.
How to Disable AutoPay in PhonePe
The steps for managing and disabling auto-payments on Paytm, PhonePe, and GPay share similarities. Here's how:
- Tap on your profile picture located in the top left corner of the Home screen.
- Navigate to the Payment Management section.
- Select AutoPay from the options provided.
- Review all services with auto-pay enabled and choose the ones you wish to manage.
- If you want to pause payee payments temporarily, select Pause AutoPay. To delete it entirely, scroll down and tap Delete AutoPay.
Remember, pausing a service doesn't stop recurring transactions; it only suspends them until the feature is enabled again or canceled completely.
Disabling UPI AutoPay in Paytm
- Launch your Paytm app and go to the Profile section.
- Tap on UPI Settings to find Payment Management options.
- Select Automatic Payments, enter the name of the service you want to stop, and click Cancel Automatic Payment to confirm the change.
How to Turn Off GPay AutoPay Services
- Go to the Home page where it says 'You'; click on the AutoPay option found there.
- Select the service you wish to stop from the Live section.
- To finalize, tap Cancel AutoPay and enter your UPI PIN for verification purposes.
By taking these steps, you can regain control over your finances. Regularly reviewing your auto-payments ensures no undue charges slip through the cracks.
Critical Steps to Remember:
- Check and review AutoPay services monthly.
- Set reminders for free trials; cancel before expiring dates.
- Only keep essential services on auto-pay to avoid hidden costs.
These practices not only protect your finances but also simplify your payment management. By staying proactive, you can minimize the risks associated with automatic payments and make the most out of UPI AutoPay features.
