Land Conversion Scandal Hits Shamirpet

Last week, the Anti-Corruption Bureau nabbed Sucharita, the Shamirpet Tahsildar, for a bribery case involving land conversion. Investigations revealed that the accused demanded a total of $30 lakh (about Rs. 2 crores) from a farmer consultant seeking permission to convert approximately 30 acres.

RPF Hyderabad's division has also uncovered a significant cash haul of Rs. 122 lakh (about $1.22 crore). This was found during an intensive inspection on the Devagiri Express, highlighting the scale and complexity of illicit transportation networks within the state.

According to the officials, suspected passengers' behavior aroused suspicion, leading RPF personnel to conduct a detailed examination, which resulted in the recovery of these funds intended for untraceable transactions.

The cash was likely transported from Mumbai's Zaveri Bazaar toSecunderabad, indicating wider networks involved. The suspect along with the recovered cash was handed over to the local Railway police and necessary notifications were made by authorities.

Bribery at higher administrative levels has also come under scrutiny as MRO Satyanarayana, who served in Shamirpet Tahsildar's office before his own arrest in 2024, was found with unaccounted cash of Rs. 2 lakh.

The series of incidents underscores the growing efforts to root out corruption within public sectors and highlight ongoing investigations into deeper layers of bureaucracy.
