BALLARI, KARNATAKA — Law enforcement and food department officials made a significant seizure operation near Badanahatti village in the Kurugodu police station limits. The raid targeted an alleged illegal distribution of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice and resulted in the recovery of approximately 22 tonnes of rice, valued at Rs 5.52 lakh.

According to officers, the contraband was being stockpiled at Nandi Layout on Yallapur Road by individuals identified as Yashaswami alias Yashankar Gowda and Umesh alias Umashankar. Both residents of Kurugodu, these men were allegedly loading the rice onto a lorry slated for transportation to Veerabhadra and Vinod in Manvi.

Raid Details

A joint team consisting of Ketan Joshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Supreeth V, Kurugodu PSI, police personnel Shivarayappa, Pakkirappa, and Ramachandra, along with Food Inspector Mallikarjun P, executed the raid. They successfully seized not only 22.10 tonnes of PDS rice but also apprehended the involved lorries used in transportation.

The lorry, estimated to be worth around Rs 10 lakh, was among the property confiscated by police. Following this operation, a case has been initiated under Sections 3, 7 and 6(A) of the Essential Commodities Act at the Kurugodu police station. The investigation is expected to shed light on the alleged activities.
