8th Pay Commission Salary Hike Expected to Boost Nearly 70 Million Payscale

Highlights

  • 2.57 is the current fixed factor for the 7th Pay Commission, resulting in an average boost of around 14-16% in salary levels.
  • The 8th Pay Commission Committee has projected a range from 1.83 to 3.0 for the fixed factor, with most estimates suggesting it will remain between around 2.15-2.57.
  • The actual wage hikes will vary, particularly impacting lower-level employees who may benefit more in percentage terms than those holding higher positions.
  • The deadline set by the review committee for submitting the report is April 2027, with changes expected to be effective following thorough reviews and approvals.

The government is eagerly awaiting the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission. Millions of civil servants and millions more drawing pensions have high hopes for a wage hike expected in this commission.

The 8th Pay Commission Review Committee Chairman Pratap Desai has recently been reviewing several critical points, including the Fixed Factor (FF), which significantly impacts salaries and pension payments.

While the Times Bull reported that the fixed factor could fall anywhere within a range of 1.83 to 3.0, experts mostly estimate it between 2.15 to 2.57.

Experts believe this could result in an average salary increment of around 20-35 percent for Level 1 (the lowest rung) employees and more significant percentage hikes for higher-level (Levels 6+). However, the actual impact will vary based on the implementation level.

The review committee aims to submit their report by April 2027. Once approved, changes won't take effect until other stakeholders, including the Finance Ministry and related departments, have a chance to review the suggestions and approve them through Cabinet approval.
